BMI Calculator

The CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend using a BMI to screen for overweight and obesity in children beginning at 2 years of age.

While a BMI calculator cannot take the place of a doctor's assessment or visually looking at your child, it is a useful screening tool for determining if further follow up is needed.

If your child measures in the under or overweight category it is best to make an appointment with their pediatrician for further assessments. A large boned child or a child with a lot of muscles may calculate as overweight, when in fact they are at a healthy weight.

Remember, a BMI calculation is only one step in evaluating your child's weight status. If you have any questions, make an appointment with your child's pediatrician.
